Our June outing will be to the Fire Island Lighthouse run by the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society. The Fire Island Lighthouse was an important landmark for transatlantic ships coming into New York Harbor at the turn of the last century. For many European immigrants, the Fire Island Light was their first sight of land upon arrival in America.
Looking forward to enjoying a walk on the boardwalk to the lighthouse and then on the beach in addition to touring the lighthouse tower, lens building, and boathouse. We will also participate in a U.S. Life Saving Service lecture provided by a Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society volunteer.
Artists in the group can bring drawing pads or cameras to capture this beautiful beach setting and historic lighthouse. Feel free to bring water, light lunch or snack.
Date to be confirmed and raindate to be set.
