Project Stewardship participants will embark on an outing to Restoration Farm which was founded in 2007 by husband and wife team Daniel Holmes and Caroline Fanning. The seven-acre organic farm is leased from Nassau County at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, a living history museum that recreates 19th century life on Long Island. Fresh vegetables, berries, flowers, and herbs are available to the public through a CSA (community supported agriculture) membership and a weekly farm stand during the growing season.
We will be at Restoration Farm for their Mother’s Day Plant Sale and Farm Tour where you can purchase flowers, vegetables and gift items (such as honey, jam and other goodies) for mom or grandma! Spend time walking the grounds of the farm beginning at the “Tin House” – CSA distribution area near the herb and flower gardens, then taking the trail passing the vegetable fields to the apple orchard. We will see the berry patches and proceed on to visit the farm animals at the original Powell Farm (circa mid-1700’s).
Participants can enjoy time at this local farm. Artists in the group can bring drawing pads or cameras to capture this beautiful nature setting and historic farm. Feel free to bring water, light lunch or snack.
