Project Stewardship participants will embark on an outing to Restoration Farm which was founded in 2007 by husband and wife team Daniel Holmes and Caroline Fanning. The seven-acre farm is leased from Nassau County at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, a living history museum that recreates 19th century life on Long Island. Fresh vegetables, berries, flowers, and herbs are available to the public through a CSA (community supported agriculture) membership and weekly farm stand.
We will spend time walking the grounds of the farm beginning at the “Tin House” – CSA distribution area near the herb and flower gardens, then taking the trail passing the vegetable fields to the apple orchard. We will see the berry patches and proceed on to visit the farm animals at the original Powell Farm.
Participants can enjoy time at this local farm. Artists in the group can bring drawing pads or cameras to capture this beautiful nature setting and historic farm. Feel free to bring water, light lunch or snack.
Project Stewardship is our program for young adults (monthly meetings/workshops and outings in addition to volunteer/internship placements) providing opportunities for participants to find and follow their bliss while connecting with and helping others in the process! MAKE NEW FRIENDS • BUILD SKILLS • GAIN LIFE-ENHANCING EXPERIENCES.
