April 14: L.I. History in Your Own Backyard

We are privileged to have worked with Josh Soren, Operations Supervisor at Jones Beach State Park, affiliated with the Seaford  and Wantagh Historical / Preservation Societies, who is on the Town of Hempstead Landmarks Commission towards this month’s workshop! Josh was kind enough to contribute to our “young historians” (Justin Ellis and Ken Hendrikson) research projects about “Long Island History in Your Own Backyard” (the name of one of  The Children’s Sangha’s consulting services) focusing on the Wantagh area that was referred to as “The Brush” and it’s rich African American history. Starting in Wantagh connects to our tour of the Underground Railroad location in Jericho later in the month. Many of our young people have passed these sites in their local travels without realizing the important history of our area! Photos and artifacts will be shared. Time for socialization. Refreshments served.
