May 10: Mother’s Day Honors & CPS Basics Training

At this time of Mother’s Day, we are pleased to honor all of the moms who are working so hard on behalf of their children/young adults! We will spend this evening in honor of you, welcoming those new to the CPS approach and those who have been using it for years! The challenges and successes those using the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) have experienced have helped others and paved the way for a shift in consciousness when it comes to understanding behavior and resolving problems together with our children/young adults! Our Student Leadership Partnership and the SUNY Old Westbury Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) will be offering small gifts filled with gratitude to all moms attending!

Dr. Monica DeSchryver has been utilizing CPS with our young people and their families for many years and has worked with us since the inception of the Community Support Group. She will be here today to offer “CPS Basics” training and answer any questions you may have about the approach or a particular family or school problem situation that you may be struggling to resolve. Please join us!

The foundation of our Community Support Group (established in 2008) is the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach developed by Dr. Ross W. Greene geared to assist our young people in solving problem situations with the assistance of adults while building lagging skills in the process. View the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems Sheet and feel free to bring a completed copy to the meeting for guidance.

Christine Keller, who has received advanced training in the CPS approach, facilitates our group and is often joined by either Dr. Monica DeSchryver or Dr. Lisa LoPinto who are certified CPS providers. Questions about how to apply CPS in the home or school setting are are common topics. Learn how to view challenges through new lenses and navigate problem situations. Connect with one another through open discussion and obtain resource information and support. Young adults may also participate!

Please REGISTER for this month’s meeting below or complete our Community Support Group annual membership application. An annual membership donation includes all meetings for the year and CPS Training. No fee for students. Please note whether you would like to attend this meeting in person or via Zoom. Thank you.

CPS is an approach applicable to everyone! We all have different abilities and needs. We welcome you to be part of our collaborative community!
