October 18: Community Support Group – Growing w/CPS

The Children’s Sangha established our Community Support Group in 2008. It has been our privilege to educate and support parents and professionals embarking on the CPS journey on behalf of our young people! CPS = the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions approach developed by Dr. Ross W. Greene (www.livesinthebalance.org).

This month, we are honored to have with us… Dr. Lisa LoPinto, CPS provider in private clinical practice and consultant to many of our Long Island schools. Dr. LoPinto has been working with us for several years. She is also a consultant for Lives in the Balance offering CPS certification training and supervision to school district personnel and other professionals. Dr. DeSchryver is unable to attend this session but will be back in the Spring!

We will discuss the growth of the CPS model over time, its key plans/steps, and how parents and professionals may grow and cultivate skills to help our kids (particularly those who exhibit behavioral challenges due to the clash between lagging skills and problem situations that they cannot solve alone). This is an open forum to answer questions and address issues of importance to you!

Feel free to view the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems Sheet and bring a completed copy to the meeting for guidance.

Christine Keller, who has received advanced training in the CPS approach, facilitates our group and is often joined by either Dr. Monica DeSchryver or Dr. Lisa LoPinto, certified CPS providers. Questions about how to apply CPS in the home or school setting are are common topics. Learn how to view challenging behavior through new lenses and navigate problem situations. Connect with one another through open discussion and obtain resource information and support. Young adults may also participate!

Please REGISTER for this month’s meeting below or complete our Community Support Group annual membership application. An annual membership donation includes all meetings for the year and CPS Training. No fee for students.

CPS is an approach applicable to everyone! We all have different abilities and needs. We welcome you to be part of our collaborative community!
